I hope to have a place for them before they're too big for me to have in a pot. They'll hopefully be around for many lifetimes. I took a cone home that I picked up from the ground and planted a seed about 3-4 weeks ago in the same pot as my baby Giant Sequoia, who is about 5.5 inches tall and named Rooti:)I guess I'm starting my own old growth forest. There is a grove of Dawn Redwoods in the New York Botanical Gardens in the Bronx, right next to the Bronx Zoo. But something bit all the tops off! Don't know what will happen next year, but we will see!
Jana - thank you! I have started a mini grove in my yard, hoping to give the young trees away. Those beautiful trunks and the soft foliage seem almost magical to me.
